On September 29, 2004 Major League Baseball announced that the Montreal Expos franchise would relocate to Washington, D.C. for the 2005 season — a major franchise relocation that ended the Expos’ 36-year run in Montreal and eventually produced the Washington Nationals franchise and new ballpark developments.
