YouTube TV and Fox Sports are currently locked in a heated contract dispute that could have a major impact on fans streaming the first week of the college football season. With the kickoff of marquee matchups like Texas vs. Ohio State approaching, YouTube TV is warning subscribers that they could lose access to several Fox-owned channels—including Fox Sports, FS1, the Big Ten Network, and local Fox affiliates—if a new agreement isn’t reached by 5 PM ET today, August 27, 2025. The standoff centers around money: Fox is reportedly demanding significantly higher carriage fees, while YouTube TV insists it’s trying to keep costs fair for subscribers.

For fans, the immediate concern is access, not pricing. As of now, YouTube TV has not announced any subscription price increases tied to this dispute. In fact, the company has said it will offer affected subscribers a $10 monthly credit if Fox channels go dark. However, if the blackout occurs, viewers relying on YouTube TV could miss several highly anticipated games during the opening weekend of college football and even risk losing access to the NFL season opener.

Fans who want uninterrupted coverage have a couple of options. Fox recently launched its standalone streaming service, Fox One, on August 21, 2025, offering live access to Fox programming—including sports—for $19.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. Other live TV streaming providers like FuboTV and Hulu + Live TV continue to carry Fox Sports channels and could serve as temporary alternatives if the dispute drags on.

If no agreement is reached by today’s deadline, millions of sports fans could be left scrambling to find ways to stream this weekend’s biggest games.
